Title: Border Bovine
Location: City Hall: Smith and Walker
Artist: Robin H. Roberts
Sponsor: Duke Energy

Border Bovine was inspired at the artists studio on the Indio Faith Ranch. The Rio Grande River is only a few miles from the studio and Mexico is easy to see in the distance. The two designs that appear on Bovine depict scenes near the Rio Grande, one of ranch cowboys riding through prickly pear in search of wayward cows and the other of a longhorn skull with the red cliffs of the river in the distance. Bovine was painted with commercial acrylic paint over a yellow field and finished with exterior varnish.

Contrary to what may be your impression of the border between the U.S. and Mexico, South Texas and the borderlands hold a mystical beauty that is irresistible to Texas cowboys and to artists. The beauty, historical intrigue and open spaces of this desert environment are a constant inspiration to my work and the Border Bovine is not only two paintings of this area but it resembles the clay and paper maché figures that are so popular in Mexico.
