The theme of Katie Stevenson's heart centers on organic forms - the "arterial" roots and branches that nurture the strong body of the tree, giving promise for an active healthy life. "The heart of every community is in their young people. Their health, from head to toe, is vital to a vibrant and dynamic future. In these uncertain times, taking care of our children will make a difference for the generations that follow. Strength, caring, and determination make a strong heart, and a strong community."
A professional artist and teacher for more than 25 years, Stevenson has illustrated hundreds of products, including stationery, greeting cards, children's books and figurines for such clients as George Caspari, C. R. Gibson, Lenox, Great American Puzzle, and Joshua Morris. She also paints, sculpts and makes prints in a variety of media from acrylics and pastels to handmade paper and clay. She recently completed the first in a series of commissioned murals of medieval scenes for the Norwalk Public Library.
Working with children and young adults is one of Stevenson's most rewarding pursuits. She has conducted art workshops and after-school programs for libraries in Danbury, New Fairfield, Newtown, Norwalk, Ridgefield, and Stamford. Her extensive training includes Paier School of Art, University of Hartford Art School, Silvermine School of Art, and School of Visual Arts.
