Diana Lyn Cote

Diana Lyn Cote's work has blossomed around her passion for a medium called oil paintik, similar in appearance to oversized crayons. She uses layers of scribbly lines to weave threads of color into richly textured, tapestry-like images. Cote has advanced this technique, dubbed the "Coté Squiggle", into a stylized hybrid of Impressionism that is uniquely her own.
She admits to merging her two primary sources of inspiration: the theory of color mixing from the French Impressionists with the unadulterated energy of children. Each day, she attempts to resurrect her "inner three year-old" to scribble layer upon layer of color, until a deceptively realistic image emerges. As she sees it, whether she is painting a landscape, a still life or the human form, her true subject is always capturing the playful habits of light.
Cote maintains a studio in East Hartford, where she continues to refine her art and career of more than two decades. She is enjoying increased recognition, as evidenced by a recent invitation to create a decoration for the White House Christmas tree. Referring to the commission, she reflected, "It is a great honor to create a symbol of peace at this time."
Cote is represented by State of the Arts in Hartford and Frame Dimensions in West Hartford. For more information, visit www.dianalyncote.com.
